Wholesale Buddha Statue Prices in Bali: Bulk & Container Guide 2027

Wholesale Buddha statue prices in Bali are set by four things: the stone or bronze material, the size, the carving complexity, and — most importantly for wholesale — your order volume. Buying factory-direct from a carving workshop rather than through a middleman typically cuts unit cost significantly, and consolidating an order into a single shipping container brings the landed cost per piece down further, because freight is shared across many statues instead of loaded onto one. For retailers, interior designers, garden centres and hospitality buyers, a bulk order direct from Batubulan is the difference between a healthy margin and no margin at all.

Our workshop desk wrote this guide, and it approves what leaves the yard. We supply both single collectors and trade buyers ordering by the pallet and the container. This guide explains how wholesale pricing genuinely works so you can budget accurately and negotiate from knowledge. When you are ready for a trade quote, our wholesale supplier page has the details, or you can request bulk pricing directly.

What actually drives the wholesale price

Before you can judge whether a quote is fair, you need to understand what you are paying for. Four factors set the base price of any hand-carved statue.

Material. Paras Kerobokan limestone-tuff is the classic, cost-efficient Balinese carving stone — fine-grained, quick to work, and beautiful. Black volcanic lava from Karangasem is denser and more weather-hardy but harder to carve, so it costs more per piece. Cast bronze sits in a different bracket again because of metal and foundry costs. For most wholesale garden and decor programmes, paras stone offers the best margin; for premium outdoor lines, lava. You can compare the materials on our stone and bronze pillars.

Size. Price rises faster than height because a taller statue needs a bigger stone block, more carving hours, and heavier handling. A 40 cm Buddha, a 1 m Buddha, and a 1.8 m Buddha are three completely different cost tiers.

Complexity. A serene Buddha head or a simple meditating pose carves faster than an intricate teaching pose with fingers held in mid-air or a reclining Buddha with flowing robes. More carving time means higher unit cost.

Finish. Natural raw stone is cheapest. Antique/mossy aging and smooth polishing add labour.

For a full retail-level breakdown of these factors by size, our Bali Buddha statue cost guide walks through single-piece pricing tiers in detail.

How volume changes the maths

Here is where wholesale diverges from retail. Two mechanisms lower your cost as you scale.

Unit price discounts. Ordering ten identical garden Buddhas is far more efficient for a workshop than carving one: the carvers get into a rhythm, stone is bought in bulk, and setup is shared. That efficiency is passed on as a lower per-piece price. The larger and more standardised the order, the deeper the discount — this is the core reason to buy factory direct from Bali rather than from a reseller who has already taken their margin.

Shared freight — the container effect. This is the big one, and it is where buyers who only think about unit price miss the real saving. International shipping is priced largely by space and weight. Ship one statue and it carries the entire freight cost. Ship forty statues in one 20-foot container and that same freight cost is divided across all forty pieces, dramatically reducing the shipping component of each statue’s landed cost. This is why serious trade buyers order by the container. We break down exactly how container economics work — volume, timeline, and cost — in our dedicated container shipping guide.

The combination is powerful: a lower unit price and a lower freight-per-piece means the landed cost of a wholesale statue can be a fraction of what the same piece costs a one-off retail buyer.

Typical minimum order quantities (MOQ)

Most Bali carving workshops, including ours, set a minimum order for trade pricing — it is what makes the volume discount viable. MOQ can be expressed as a piece count, a total order value, or “enough to fill a container.” The right MOQ for you depends on whether you are:

  • A retailer or garden centre stocking a range — you might mix poses and sizes across a pallet or part-container.
  • An interior designer or landscaper buying for specific projects — smaller, more varied orders.
  • A hotel, resort or spa group furnishing multiple properties — often full-container, sometimes bespoke matched sets (see our guide to sourcing statues for hotels and resorts).

Rather than quote a rigid number here that would soon be out of date, we set MOQ per client based on your mix. Tell us what you are trying to stock or furnish and we will propose the most cost-effective order structure.

What a good wholesale quote looks like

A trustworthy wholesale quote is itemised and transparent. It should separate:

  1. Unit price per statue (by model and size),
  2. Crating and packing,
  3. Freight to your nearest port,
  4. and clearly state the MOQ and lead time.

Be wary of any supplier who quotes a single all-in number with no breakdown, or who is vague about shipping — bundled or hidden freight is the most common way wholesale buyers get an unpleasant surprise on landed cost. Our quotes always separate these lines so you can see exactly where your money goes.

Lead times for bulk orders

Because wholesale pieces are hand-carved to order, plan realistic lead times. A workshop typically needs several weeks to carve a full order depending on size mix and quantity, then ocean freight is added on top. As a rough planning figure, allow a couple of months from order confirmation to arrival for a container-scale order, longer for large or complex mixes. Order seasonal stock well ahead. Our shipping timelines guide gives region-by-region freight estimates you can add to the carving time.

Buying direct is the whole point

Indonesia’s handicraft sector — with Bali’s stone-carving villages at its heart — is a significant, government-promoted export industry, and Batubulan is one of its recognised centres (as documented in Indonesia’s official trade-and-export promotion resources). That means the source price is genuinely low; the reason retail imports cost so much is the chain of middlemen between the carver and the shelf. Wholesale from Bali works because you cut that chain out and buy from the hands that made the statue.

To make sure you are buying from a real workshop and not another middleman in disguise, use our checklist for choosing the best Bali Buddha statue supplier.
