Balinese Buddha Statue Collection — Choose by Pose, Mudra & Size
A Balinese Buddha statue is a hand-carved or cast Buddha figure made by Bali’s artisans, available in a range of traditional poses (asanas) and hand gestures (mudras) — each carrying its own meaning — and in sizes from a 30 cm tabletop head to a life-size garden centrepiece. This collection page is your map to the full range at Suryana Buddha Atelier: browse by pose, understand what each mudra means, and choose the right size for your home, garden, spa or hotel. Every piece is carved in our Batubulan workshop and approved by founder Wayan Suryana.
Choosing a Buddha isn’t only about looks — the pose and gesture carry intention. Below we explain each, so you can pick one that fits both your space and its meaning.

Buddha poses (asanas) in our collection
Meditating Buddha (seated, Dhyana mudra)
The Balinese meditating Buddha — seated with both hands resting in the lap, palms up — is our most requested form. It represents deep meditation and inner peace, and it’s the natural centrepiece for a zen garden, meditation room or spa. Carved beautifully in paras stone for gardens.
Earth-touching Buddha (Bhumisparsha mudra)
Seated with the right hand reaching down to touch the earth, this depicts the moment of the Buddha’s enlightenment — calling the earth to witness. A meaningful choice for a contemplative space.
Teaching Buddha (Dharmachakra mudra)
Both hands held at the chest, thumbs and forefingers forming circles — the “turning of the wheel of dharma,” symbolising the Buddha’s first teaching. Elegant for interiors and study spaces.
Reclining Buddha
The Balinese reclining Buddha in stone lies on its right side, representing the Buddha’s final passing into nirvana. Long and serene, it’s a dramatic horizontal feature for larger gardens, spa lawns and hotel grounds.
Standing Buddha
Upright and dignified, often in Abhaya (fearlessness, right hand raised) or Varada (giving, hand lowered) mudra. Standing Buddhas make superb entrance and gateway pieces — see our bronze standing Buddhas.
Buddha head statues
A Balinese Buddha head in stone or lava distils the serenity of the face into a striking, space-efficient piece — perfect for interiors, entrances, tabletops and among garden planting.

Understanding mudras (hand gestures)
Mudras are the language of a Buddha statue’s hands. The main ones we carve:
- Dhyana (meditation) — hands in the lap; calm and focus.
- Bhumisparsha (earth-touching) — enlightenment.
- Abhaya (fearlessness) — right hand raised, palm out; protection and reassurance.
- Varada (giving) — hand lowered, palm out; compassion and charity.
- Dharmachakra (teaching) — hands at the chest; the first sermon.
- Vitarka (discussion) — thumb and forefinger touching; transmission of wisdom.
Choosing a mudra that matches your intention — peace, protection, generosity, learning — makes a statue personal.

Sizes for every space
- 30–50 cm — tabletop, altar, shelf, Buddha heads.
- 50–100 cm — reception desks, entrance nooks, meditation rooms.
- 100–150 cm — garden and living-room focal points.
- 150 cm+ — large stone Buddha for a hotel entrance, resort courtyards, and life-size Balinese Buddha statues for spa decor, carved to order.
Larger pieces are heavy and shipped by container; we plan crating and freight for you via shipping & export.

Materials across the collection
Every pose in this collection can be made in different materials, and material changes both look and durability:
- Paras stone — soft grey temple look, ideal for shaded gardens. See the stone pillar.
- Black lava stone — dark, dense, coastal-tough, modern. See the garden/outdoor pillar.
- Cast bronze — crisp detail, warm sheen, low maintenance. See the bronze pillar.
Not sure which fits your climate and style? Tell us the space and we’ll recommend the material and finish.

For homes, spas and hotels
Homeowners choose a single meaningful piece; spas and hotels commission coordinated sets — a standing Buddha at the entrance, a meditating Buddha in the courtyard, Buddha heads along a corridor. We handle both, and for hospitality volumes we ship factory-direct; see hotel & resort sourcing and wholesale.

Authentically hand-carved
Whichever pose you choose, it is carved by hand in Batubulan (or cast and hand-finished, for bronze), with no anonymous factory shortcuts. Wayan Suryana approves each piece. Our lineage is on the about page and our promises on the authenticity & guarantees page; to spot genuine hand-carving yourself, see how to tell if a Balinese Buddha statue is authentic.

Placement & feng shui
Where you place a Buddha matters — for harmony and, for many buyers, for feng shui. A Buddha traditionally faces into a room or garden (never with its back to the main view), sits above ground level, and is kept in a clean, respectful spot. Our guide, feng shui Buddha statue placement, covers direction, height and etiquette in detail.

Frequently asked questions
Which Buddha pose is best for a garden? A seated meditating Buddha (Dhyana) is the classic garden centrepiece; a reclining Buddha suits larger lawns. Both carve beautifully in stone. See our garden pillar.
What does the meditating Buddha statue mean? The seated Dhyana-mudra Buddha, hands resting in the lap, represents deep meditation and inner peace — which is why it’s so popular for meditation rooms and zen gardens. More in Buddha poses & mudras explained.
Do you make Balinese Buddha head statues? Yes — carved in paras or lava stone, a striking, space-efficient piece for interiors, entrances and gardens.
Can I get a life-size Buddha statue for a spa or hotel? Yes — we carve large and life-size pieces to order and ship by container. See wholesale and custom commissions.
Which material should I choose for my Buddha statue? Paras stone for shaded temple looks, lava for coastal/modern, bronze for detail and low maintenance. Tell us the setting and we’ll advise — or request a quote.
How should I position a Buddha statue at home? Facing into the room, above floor level, in a clean and respectful spot. Full guidance is in our feng shui placement guide.
