Meditating Buddha
(seated, Dhyana mudra)
The Balinese meditating Buddha — seated with both
hands resting in the lap, palms up — is our most requested form. It
represents deep meditation and inner peace, and it’s the natural
centrepiece for a zen garden, meditation room or spa. Carved beautifully

Earth-touching Buddha
(Bhumisparsha mudra)
Seated with the right hand reaching down to touch the earth, this
depicts the moment of the Buddha’s enlightenment — calling the earth to
witness. A meaningful choice for a contemplative space.
Teaching Buddha
(Dharmachakra mudra)
Both hands held at the chest, thumbs and forefingers forming circles
— the “turning of the wheel of dharma,” symbolising the Buddha’s first
teaching. Elegant for interiors and study spaces.
Reclining Buddha
The Balinese reclining Buddha in stone lies on its
right side, representing the Buddha’s final passing into nirvana. Long
and serene, it’s a dramatic horizontal feature for larger gardens, spa
lawns and hotel grounds.
Standing Buddha
Upright and dignified, often in Abhaya (fearlessness, right hand
raised) or Varada (giving, hand lowered) mudra. Standing Buddhas make

Understanding mudras (hand
gestures)
Mudras are the language of a Buddha statue’s hands. The main ones we
carve:
- Dhyana (meditation) — hands in the lap; calm and
focus. - Bhumisparsha (earth-touching) — enlightenment.
- Abhaya (fearlessness) — right hand raised, palm
out; protection and reassurance. - Varada (giving) — hand lowered, palm out;
compassion and charity. - Dharmachakra (teaching) — hands at the chest; the
first sermon. - Vitarka (discussion) — thumb and forefinger
touching; transmission of wisdom.
Choosing a mudra that matches your intention — peace, protection,
generosity, learning — makes a statue personal.

Where you place a Buddha matters — for harmony and, for many buyers,

with its back to the main view), sits above ground level, and is kept in
