Why
Buy From Us — Authenticity, Ethical Sourcing & Buyer Guarantees
An authentic Balinese hand-carved statue is one carved by
hand, by a named Balinese carver, from genuine local stone, with
provenance you can verify — and everything Suryana Buddha Atelier sells
meets that bar, backed by clear buyer guarantees. The
Buddha-statue market is full of factory castings dressed up as “Bali
hand-carved,” so this page lays out exactly why buying from us is safe:
who makes your statue, where the material comes from, how we protect you
on quality and shipping, and what our guarantees actually promise.
Ask us anything before you
buy — we’d rather answer questions than have you guess.
1. Real provenance —
you can meet the maker
The first test of authenticity is simple: can the seller name the
carver? We can. Every piece is made in our Batubulan workshop under
founder and master carver Wayan Suryana, a
third-generation Balinese carver. You know the person, the family, the
village and the quarry behind your statue. Read the full story on our about page.
Most resellers can’t do this because they don’t know — they buy
anonymous stock from middlemen. Provenance you can verify is the single
strongest signal that a statue is genuinely hand-carved and genuinely
Balinese.
2. Genuine
materials — real paras and lava stone
We use genuine paras Kerobokan (soft grey volcanic
limestone-tuff) and black lava stone from Karangasem,
sourced from established Balinese quarries — not cheaper look-alike
substitutes. The right stone is part of what makes a statue last
outdoors and hold fine detail. We can tell you which stone your piece is
and why we chose it for your setting. See our stone Buddha statues pillar.
3. Truly hand-carved — no
moulds
Our stone statues are carved from solid blocks by hand — no casting,
no moulds. That’s why each shows real tool marks, real grain and the
small human variations that make it one of a kind. Our bronze pieces are
cast (as all bronze must be) and then hand-finished by our artisans. If
you’d like to judge hand-carving yourself, our guide how to tell
if a Balinese Buddha statue is authentic shows you the tells.
4. Ethical sourcing
Authenticity and ethics go together. We:
- Pay skilled carvers for skilled work — this is a
respected trade, not anonymous labour. - Source stone from established quarries, not
damaging or illicit extraction. - Keep a heritage craft alive, employing carvers in a
village that has practised this for generations.
For buyers who care where their decor comes from — and increasingly,
that’s most of you — this matters. An ethically-sourced Balinese
stone Buddha carries a story worth having in your home.
5. Quality guarantees
We stand behind every piece:
- Sound-stone guarantee — we ship only pieces free of
hairline flaws that could open in transit or over time. - Pre-shipment inspection — Wayan Suryana personally
signs off finishing and patina before crating. - Photographic records — we photograph each statue
and its crate before dispatch, so what you ordered is documented. - Made-right or made-again — if a bespoke commission
doesn’t match the agreed brief, we make it right. Talk to us on contact.
6. Safe-arrival crating
A statue is only as good as the crate it travels in. We build
custom timber crates with high-density foam, strapping,
corner protection and moisture barriers for sea freight — the standard
that gets heavy, brittle-edged stone across an ocean intact. We
recommend transit insurance for large pieces, and our photographic
pre-shipment records support any claim. Full method is on our shipping & export page and in how to pack
& crate a stone statue for export.
7. Honest export &
documentation
We handle Bali-side export paperwork correctly, so your statue
doesn’t stall at customs. Our decorative stone and bronze Buddhas are
legal to export on standard documentation and are not CITES-restricted.
We give you accurate values and guidance for your import paperwork. See

legal to export Buddha statues from Bali and how to import a
Buddha statue from Bali.
8. Fair, transparent pricing
Because we’re the workshop — a factory-direct maker — you pay the
maker’s price, not a chain of markups. We’re clear about what drives
cost (size, material, finish, freight) and give real quotes for real
pieces. See our cost guide,
and for trade buyers, wholesale pricing.
9. Real support before
and after you buy
We’d rather answer ten questions than sell you the wrong statue. Tell
us your climate, your space and your intention, and we’ll recommend the
material, finish and size that actually work — and we’re reachable by WhatsApp throughout. That
advisory relationship is part of buying from a maker rather than a
marketplace.
What our buyers value most
Across private buyers, designers and hospitality clients, the same
themes come back: the calm of a genuinely hand-carved face, the
reassurance of knowing the maker, statues that arrived perfectly crated,
and pieces that have weathered beautifully outdoors for years. That
track record — not a slogan — is why buyers return and refer us. To vet
any Bali supplier (including us) properly, use our checklist: how to choose the best
Bali Buddha statue supplier.
